On Trusting in the Providence of God

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on this blog, or on this website. But hopefully I’m now in a position where that can change. Here’s a brief update, and some encouragement for those who are experiencing some “stormy seasons” or “cloudy days.”

In recent months, my life has been turned upside down and inside out. Someone very close to me was very sick, had a couple of surgeries, and is now healing and on the mend. I resigned from a job, and took a LEAP of faith in taking a new one with the Advent Christian General Conference. I moved from Asheville, North Carolina to Charlotte, North Carolina. I even took a short vacation between one job ending and another beginning, and visited some friends from seminary among other things. A lot has happened.

Long story short - I’ve learned that being an adult is hard sometimes. When illness enters into the picture with a family member and you find yourself with shifted priorities, that’s hard. When you resign from a job hoping for a smooth transition and support, and you don’t get that, that’s hard. When you pack up all of your belongings (cat included) and move to a new city, that’s hard.

Life is just hard sometimes.

But Christ is still on the throne, and God is sovereign.

The providence of God still stands true.

There’s a lot of fear rooted in the “unknowns.” You know what I mean…

What will the tests and the lab results show? How long will she be in the hospital? When can she come home?

God is sovereign. The test results were good, she is home and healing after two surgeries, and there is no more pain.

When do I submit my resignation? How will the transition go? Why can’t they support me? How do I handle the negativity and unexpectedly hurtful responses?

God is sovereign. The transition was indeed difficult, and it left an impact in unforeseen ways; but I am happier and thriving and it will get better.

Will I find an apartment in time? What will the moving process be like? How expensive will the move be?

God is sovereign. An apartment was found, my new job was incredibly supportive throughout the moving process, and the Lord provided where needed.

God is sovereign, Christ is still on the throne, and the providence of God still stands true.

Even when you feel like you are surrounded by the “fear of the unknown” - remember that God is sovereign. Christ is still on the throne. The providence of God still stands true.

Life is hard sometimes, but sunsets are always prettier when there are clouds. I find that in those “stormy seasons” or “cloudy days” God is working. Later on, we look back and see how the clouds play their part in the beauty of the bigger picture.

I look forward to writing more, breathing a little easier, and settling in to a new home and a new city. More to come, my friends!
